about ouR training program

Our practicum training program begins in September and ends in June. Over the course of the training year, our trainees learn how to apply various family systems theories and community based interventions in their work with the youth and families we serve. Our training program is founded on the principles of Narrative Therapy and Social Justice. Family counseling interventions are taught through the lens of culturally responsive and sensitive practice.

Meet dr. veronique thompson

Veronique L. Thompson, Ph.D. is a licensed clinical psychologist who has been at our agency for over 30 years in various capacities beginning as a trainee, then joining the staff as a family therapist,  and currently as our clinical director.  She is also among the tenured faculty at the Wright Institute in Berkeley, where she teaches family therapy and various courses in multiculturalism. She also maintains a small private practice. In addition to these roles, Dr. Thompson also serves on the APA Minority Fellowship Program's Training Advisory Committee. She attended Spelman College as an undergrad, earned her Ph.D. from U.C. Berkeley in Clinical Psychology and has advanced professional training in Narrative and Social Justice Therapy. Her personal history of experience complements her academic training, meaning her practice of psychology is enriched by dual dimensions of culturally informed and gender related perspectives.
